The ladies integrated well into the club championships held over two days on the weekend of the 16th/17th of September.
The first day proved to be an interesting round for many with Pearl Powell, Lynne Southgate and Helen Kane in the lead at the end of the day. A lot of balls were lost in the water at the 11th and I will challenge the men to beat my record of four!
Jila Bellamy shot a fantastic nett 69 to win the nett prize for the Saturday.
The best nett score on Sunday was won by Lesley Knight with a fantastic 67.
The gross competition was hotly contested, with scores on day two being highly influential.
3rd overall Place went to Sue Drysdale, shooting a fantastic 87 in her second round and ever improving, finished with a 39 for her front nine.
A comeback from a seemingly impossible position saw our lady captain sweep up 2nd overall place, so she was presented with her prize by vice captain Karen Charles.
Helen Kane managed to keep Lesley Knight's winning form at bay by securing the Nett Championship title with a 5 under par nett result!
That leaves us all to admire the resounding victory by Pearl Powell, a full 11 shots ahead of the field, shooting a steady 86 & 89, to finish up as this year's Ladies' Club Champion.
Before the prize giving the ladies enjoyed a well earned drink and snack, paid for by the Ladies' Section.
It was nice to see Lynn Anderson's game returning to form, and both Karen Charles and Jan Eves improving their scores on the second day.
Thank you to the competitors for bearing with us after countless reshuffles of the dates and supporting us on the day.
We now look forward to the new Ladies' 18 hole stableford championship plate to be played on Thursday, for all those with a handicap of 25 and above.
