Capt Ruth's Final Fling

As the numbers of entries into the golf competitions were falling exponentially due to the weather, Jennifer made an early very sensible decision to cancel the golf and announce that the social gathering would carry on.

Five enthusiastic golfers, Pearl, Lorraine, Margaret, Marion and Ruth, arrived for a 9 o'clock start and were not dissuaded by the situation and settled into a much enjoyed two hour session of Contract Whist, ably led by Lorraine. Whilst the time flew by in the Spike Bar, Kerry was busy in the kitchen baking the stilton and bacon, cheese, and fruit scones and preparing the carrot & coriander, and stilton & broccoli soups.

Before the masses arrived the prize tables were set up.

Once everyone had arrived and been served by Suzette the formalities began.

First we had a prizegiving for the virtual game of golf which we pretended we had in the morning. The lucky winners were drawn from a pack of cards! The individual winners were Dee, Jackie and Lorraine.

Second in the team competition were Celia, Jan and Celia.

The winners of the team competition were Amanda, Kajsa and Pearl.

The Nearest the Pin was won by Lesley Knight who had got a Hole in One earlier in the year at Hadley Wood.

Next in the proceedings we had the traditional presentation of gifts by the Captain to her Committee, Team Captains and helpers.

Unfortunately Jackie Skinner, our secretary, was unable to be there for the committee photo.

The team captains were Karen & Cinny (Silver), Sue Gilbert (Bronze), Angie Waite (Harris Bowl), Celia Larkham (Annodata), and Pearl Powell (Munro Foursomes).

The Captain's life is made a lot easier with the help of the Monday Mentor Lady, Sue Drysdale, the club secretary, Sharon, and the staff Debz, Suzette and Kerry.

Next in the proceedings the Vice Captain Karen Charles thanked Ruth for the year and made a presentation, on behalf of the Ladies Section, of a new golf bag, a gift voucher towards an electric trolley, a huge thankyou card signed by everybody (and I mean everybody!) and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Ruth responded by thanking everybody for their generosity and friendship and also thanking Jennifer for her and Tom's support over the year, making it possible for her to achieve what she had set out to do.

Finally in the proceedings the formal putting out was performed indoors, with equipment loaned by Scott (it was a Scottie Cameron putter if you want to buy one). A short video of this should be available to view on you tube, either today or from tomorrow if you follow this link:

Thank you also to all those ladies who sent apologies for not being able to be there.
